I read. A lot.
The lady over at The Domestic Pagan is hosting a reading challenge this year, so I thought I’d jump on that bandwagon and keep a record of all the books that my eyes ravish this year.
She’s got special attainment levels to aim for. I’m not into pushing myself at the moment so I’m not gonna aim for anything high – I have lots of stuff to do this year, I can’t spend all my time reading books. I’m already pretty good at the reading about spiritual practice, it’s the practicing spiritual practice that I need, erm, practice at.
I am aiming at the Advanced Reader level this year (21-25 books), since I shall be counting TrueBlood books as a witchy read. (There are witches and faeries in it, honest).
1 Celtic Lore and Spellcraft of the Dark Goddess: Invoking the Morrigan Stephanie Woodfield
This book rocked. I wrote a little about it here.
2 Dead and Gone: Sookie Stackhouse book Charlaine Harris
Mmmm trashy vampires.
3 Dead in the Family: Sookie Stackhouse book Charlaine Harris
Mmmmm more trashy vampires. Only one book left and I am freee!
3.5 A Touch of Dead: Sookie Stackhouse Short Stories.
This doesn’t count as a full book. As Ms Harris says herself, I’m not sure short stories work for Sookie.
4 A New Earth Ekhart Tolle
My mum’s been banging on about Ekhart Tolle for ages, and I’ve really loved what he has to say, though I have found it quite difficult and challenging at time. Incredible.
5 Evolutionary Witchcraft T. Thorn Coyle
I’m reading this book, not practicing it yet. But I like it lots.
5.5 Kissing the Limitless by T. Thorn Coyle.
Reading, trying to practice a little bit, and LOVING it. Just reading it makes me a little more conscious and gets me trying to journal more and be more understanding of myself. However, not finished yet.
6 The Source, Ursula James
6.1 Dead Until… Something
I’m not sure I shall be letting any more True Blood books have any points here.
6.2 Dead Until… Something Else
7 Hands of an Angel Helen Parry Jones
This is totally, 100% not the kind of book I would have chosen for myself but…. I liked it. Sssssshhhhh. Don’t tell anyone.
8 How to know God by Deepak Chopra
Deepak Chopra is totally on my list of people to read this year – and I’m equal parts awesomed and unsure by this one. Hmmm.
9 Wintersmith by Terry Prattchett
Totally has super super awesome witches in it. My first Discworld novel with witches in it, incidentally!
12 Ask And It Is Given, Esther and Jerry Hicks
The change your thoughts, change your life classic. I tried reading it before, but failed. This time.. life changing.
13 Stepping Into the Magic, Gill Edwards
Gill Edwards is the Queen of the new age, and I loved this. It’s all the new age info you’d ever need in one handy book.
14 A Little light on the Spiritual Laws, Diana Cooper
Hmmmm to this one. Much learned however. Don’t buy it witches – borrow it.
15 Witchcrafting by Phyllis Courott
Love love love this book, always have and always do. Makes me sigh and think – yup, this is what witchcraft is all about.
16 Triumph of the Moon by Ronald Hutton
I am actually reading this book, after having it for 8 years! The book of the tiny writing is really really interesting, is equal parts thrilling me with wicca and rolling my eyes at it. Those ceremonial magicians, eh?! i’m about halfway through.
16.5 Witchling by Jasmine Galelnorn
Yeeech. Couldn’t get past the first chapter. I’d been reading a hardcore feminist book before trying this and all the pervy chap talk and the clothes and the make up in the first chapter really, really put me off. Bleeeeghh.
18 The Magic by Rhonda Byrne
All about gratitude baby. I dug this one. I actually have made a more concerted effort to be more greatful every day after reading this.
19 The Power of Now by Ekhart Tolle
This rocked – but I preferred A New Earth.
20 Many, MANY Anita Blake Vampire Hunter books
Love these. Kick! Pow! Nom! Blood! Sexy! Nudity! All the happy vampire themes, sigh.
21 Living Magically by Gill Edwards
Reading more stuff from the new age queen, and I was sad to discover she died recently! She’s one of these peeps who is big on life after death tho, so I think she was cool with it.
